Gas Test Atmospheres Course Overview

In this unit of competency, we cover risks around 'O2' oxygen deficient and excessive environments - ' H2S' Hydrogen Sulphide - where it comes from and what it does to the brain and body, LEL or explosive / flammable gasses and 'CO' Carbon Monoxide.

Gas test atmospheres training is a thorough and interesting course, student's are given the chance to bump test and calibrate detectors.. we cover a bit of practical and theoretical application.

One of the very worthwhile rescue courses to consider if working in, on or around confined spaces -  or if your role involves the use or operation of portable gas detection equipment.

Trainees will be able to perform gas test atmospheres correctly by gaining the theoretical understanding and practical application, and they will be able to:

  • Identify the type of gas, choose and calibrate the equipment, set up the testing protocol, recognize possible risks, put control measures in place, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Analyse and report readings, test gas, constant monitoring, and act upon inappropriate readings.

  • Equipment maintenance, keeping track of tests and outcomes and inspecting equipment before putting it back in its designated place.

Method

Gas test atmospheres course typically involves a combination of theoretical learning and practical exercises. The theoretical aspect covers gas properties, types of hazardous gases, gas detection principles, safety regulations, and emergency procedures. Practical training includes hands-on experience with gas detection equipment, simulations of gas release scenarios, calibration exercises, and mock emergency drills.

This combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills ensures that individuals can effectively detect, assess, and respond to hazardous gas situations in real-world settings, enhancing workplace safety and regulatory compliance.

Benefits of Taking the Course

Gas test atmospheres training is crucial for individuals working in environments where hazardous gases may be present. Here are some benefits of undergoing such training:

  • Safety: The primary benefit is ensuring the safety of workers and the workplace.

  • Compliance: Proper training ensures compliance with these regulations, avoiding legal issues and penalties.

  • Early Detection: Training enables individuals to identify gases as soon as possible.

  • Equipment Familiarity: Gas test atmospheres training often includes instruction on using gas detection equipment effectively.

  • Risk Mitigation: By understanding the properties of different gases, their potential hazards, and safe exposure limits, trained personnel can assess risks more effectively.

  • Emergency Response: In a gas leak or other gas-related emergency, trained individuals can respond quickly and effectively.

  • Environmental Protection: Gas test atmospheres training also emphasises the importance of environmental protection.

  • Cost Savings: Investing in this training can save long-term company costs.
